DIY CORK BOARD!
NOTE: These cork squares are somewhat thin and a bit hard to deal with. Make sure you take caution when pulling it at all, which may result in tears.
MATERIALS:
- DCWV 12"12 Cork Stack (find it at this link): http://goo.gl/mxEPZK
- 1/2 inch ribbon (yardage depends on your board- will explain later)
- Hot glue gun
- Old Cork board (look for one at your local thrift shop!)
1. Measure your cork board. The "Cork Stack" comes with 12 " 12 inch squares. The dimensions of my cork board were 3 feet by 4.5 feet. Therefore, I could not fit exactly 4 cork squares in horizontally. So I cut them down. What I did was I had an extra 1/2 of a foot of cork. So, I took 1/4 of a foot from the the far left cork squares and the far right cork squares, so the different sizes were not as obvious.
2. Start pasting and glueing! These cork squares are adhesive. I recommend using the adhesive for when you first put the cork squares on to your cork board. This is so you can see where everything will be placed. Once you have set the cork squares where you want them and stuck them on to the existing cork board, start to hot glue them into place. Everything will be uneven most likely (mine was), and that is okay. The ribbon will cover it up.
3. Once you finish hot gluing, get out your ribbon. If you want to do it the same way as I did, go below for the full instructions. In the end, I needed 36 feet of ribbon for all the rows and the border. I just hot glued the ribbon (I recommend using a thick ribbon so the hot glue can not be seen through it) onto the borders and the rows.
4. TADAAAA!!! You have an awesome looking new cork board that is cheap and easy to make.
Love- DD
P.S.- Full instructions on how to measure border: Calculate the amount of ribbon by first measuring it vertically . I have 3 rows of 3 foot ribbon (NOT INCLUDING THE BORDER), so I need 9 feet for the vertical rows. Then, measure your board horizontally. I have 2 rows of 4.5 foot ribbon (again not including the border), so I will need another 9 feet. Then, you add on the border. Just add 2 vertical measurements to 2 horizontal measurements so I ended up needing about 36 feet of ribbon.
So cute D! Can't wait to try. It seems we have so much in common. I too am quite the crafter, adore spotify ;-) proud to be a Christian and my left thumb is double jointed??? Weird!!!
